Aural Films is proud to present "Fortune Chronicles" by Another Neglected Hobby. This release is based on a real mystery. When the artist found a letter from a film studio and what looked like some pages from a novel buried far out in the desert. He was inspired to create this music and bring the manuscript back to life.

The idea to produce this soundtrack began with an arrowhead-hunting trip my wife and I took through the desert landscape of West Texas. We were riding dirt bikes down a dusty oilfield lease road when we spotted an abandoned Airstream trailer parked out in the middle of nowhere. The door was standing open and we could see that the entire interior had been stripped clean. We walked a few feet into the sand dunes surrounding the trailer, scouting for arrowheads or other artifacts, and came across something wrapped in plastic sticking out of the sand. It was a rectangular bundle about as thick as a magazine and appeared to have been buried intentionally. The persistent windstorms that sweep through the area on a regular basis had uncovered a corner of the plastic.

I pulled it out of the sand and tore through several layers of plastic to find a letter from a film studio and what looked like some pages from a novel. Although the novel was missing the second half and a section from the middle, reading it planted a seed in my mind. For weeks afterwards, I kept wondering about what had happened to whoever lived in the old Airstream, and whether it might have been the author of the manuscript. I also wondered about the story contained in the pages of the novel and why the film studio considered it “too hot” to produce on film.

When I learned about Aural Films and their production of soundtracks for films that do not exist, I knew I had to create a soundtrack for The Fortune Chronicles. Although we don’t know what happened to the author of the manuscript, the evidence suggests that some powerful force wanted to stop his story from getting out. I feel like fate led me to find what remains of the story and I now have an obligation to bring it out into the open. In addition to the music, you may also download and read the letter and manuscript pages that we found out in the desert.
